FLAMINGO CAY ROD & GUN CLUB
Flamingo Cay is one of those special places that sportsmen dream about. The only lodge located on a private, 32 square-mile Cay on the remote west side of Andros Island in the Bahamas, the Flamingo Cay Rod & Gun Club is four-star private retreat that offers some of the best bonefishing and waterfowl hunting on the planet.
The lodge was originally established in the 1920's by Old Man Bethel as a hunting camp and was host to kings and celebrities. Restored seventy years later by grandson Charles B.M. Bethel III, the Flamingo Cay Rod & Gun Club now offers sportsmen a truly unique fly-fishing and wing-shooting experience.
Huge schools of bonefish roam the pristine white flats around the Cay, offering the novice angler plenty of targets and great fun, while the double digit bones that also patrol the deeper flats nearby give the more advanced casters multiple opportunities at the fish of a lifetime. Tarpon, permit and large barracuda are also found along this untouched coastline and, during the Fall and early Winter, blue-winged Teal and other duck species provide amazing wing-shooting in the Cay's inner lagoons.
The lodge is off-the-grid, but fully functional with luxurious, air-conditioned rooms, four-star cuisine, an open fire place and outdoor bar, and a large hot tub. The guide team, headed by Charles Bethel, is first rate and the flats skiffs are made by Hell's Bay Boatworks, the leader in the industry.
A seaplane is required to get into the lodge, usually flown out of Nassau, but arrangements can be made to fly out of Florida and helicopters can land at the lodge as well.
The Club has grown in popularity of the past few years and most weeks are re-booked each year by returning clients. For this reason, long term planning is essential for booking reservations.
